A bakery in Canada was the target of a unique break-in during the early hours of Friday morning.

Breaking In

Despite the perpetrator smashing the glass door to gain entry and stealing only one box of sweet treats, the incident was described by the owner as "one of the best laughs" she's ever had.

The burglary was caught on CCTV, revealing that the suspect spent 15 minutes outside the front of the bakery, intermittently knocking on the door before breaking the glass with his foot. The footage shows the perpetrator casually strolling around the shop and even using the bathroom and having a drink of water before attempting to clean up the broken glass.

Owner Emma Irvine stated that the thief was acting as though he was there to pick up a cake at 3 pm rather than 3 am. While any burglary is unfortunate, Irvine was able to see the humorous side of the bizarre incident.

Doing Weird Things

"He walked around, used our bathroom, sat down for quite a long time, and had a drink of water," said Ms Irvine.

"He was in no rush. He realized, I guess, that he’d made a mess and grabbed a mop and bucket and goes to try to clean up all of the glass from the door that he kicked in."

According to CBC News, the man spent nearly an hour inside the store, taking selfies with the phone and wearing orange sunglasses before he proceeded to sweep the floor. Finally, he helped himself to a box of cupcakes and left. The next day, when Ms. Irvine saw the damage, she felt upset, but upon reviewing the video evidence, she found the situation comical.

She said: ‘It turned from this not-so-great experience to some of the best laughs I’ve ever had. You just can’t make this stuff up.

"Honestly, I think he really wanted cupcakes. Maybe they are that good."

Making New Cupcakes

Ms. Irvine told Global News that she had to remake the six stolen cakes for her customer.

Despite the unfortunate situation, she is using her creativity to her advantage. Along with fixing the glass door, she is also selling delectable chocolate champagne cupcakes with a playful twist - orange sugar cookie toppers shaped like sunglasses.
