Avicii’s Family Reveals Funeral Arrangements
A month after Swedish DJ Avicii's (born Tom Bergling) untimely death, his family announced the funeral plans in a statement to Billboard on Tuesday (May 22).
"There have been many inquiries regarding the funeral arrangements for Tim Bergling, known by music fans as Avicii. The Bergling family has now confirmed that the funeral will be private, in the presence of the people who were closest to Tim," the statement read. "They kindly ask media to respect this. There is no additional information forthcoming."
Earlier this month it was revealed that the 28-year-old died in Muscat, Oman due to self-inflicted cuts made by broken shards of glass. Days after his death, his family issued a statement that implied he had died by suicide:
"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions," the family said. ""He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life and Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace."
Since his death, many in the music community have paid tributes to Avicii, with the latest being Halsey and the Chainsmokers during the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.
"Before we get to the next award, we'd like to take a minute to talk about our friend Avicii," said Drew Taggart before introducing the Top Hot 100 song. "His passing was a great loss for the music world and for us. He was an artist who inspired so many in so many ways, and simply put, he meant so much to us and everyone in the EDM community."
Continued Halsey: "Everyone who worked with him would agree that he was such a joy, and it makes this tragedy all the more painful. It's a reminder to all of us to be there and to support all of our friends and family members who may be struggling with mental health issues."
