Remember when small town Main Streets were lined with mom and pop stores, a cafe that served the best homemade food and maybe even a small theater? I grew up in Wagner, SD and our Main Street had all of those. There was a movie theater, the Spot Cafe, James Rexall Drug Store, Miller's 5 and Dime, Phil's Grocery - so many memories.

Unfortunately, over time, changes occur and small town businesses close. Thanks to loyal locals, many Main Streets are being revitalized.

Could your town's Main Street use $25,000? Independent We Stand, a website dedicated to reaching out to communities and educating their neighbors about the many benefits of buying local, is sponsoring a contest called "America's Main Streets."

Nominate a Main Street and then rally your community to vote. The grand prize is $25,000 cash and related prizes to help revitalize your Main Street.

You need to hurry. Nominations and quarter finalist voting runs through April 24, 2016. Semi-finalist voting is May 2-29, 2016 and the winner will be announced on June 3, 2016.
