An Arctic blast is settling on the Sioux Empire this first week of 2017. Cold temps Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will combine with winds to create dangerous wind chills. So the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for most of South Dakota and parts of Iowa and Minnesota.

Wind chills will drop to around 20 below by Wednesday morning. Be prepared for the very cold air on the way to school Wednesday morning.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS ISSUED A WIND
CHILL ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO
NOON CST WEDNESDAY.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY...NORTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH...AFTER
  STRONGER EARLY EVENING WINDS.

* WIND CHILL VALUES...20 BELOW TO 25 BELOW ZERO...WITH THE
  COLDEST WIND CHILLS AROUND DAYBREAK WEDNESDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN A COMBINATION OF WIND AND
COLD TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR EXPOSED
SKIN.  THE WIND WILL MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 20 DEGREES BELOW
ZERO OR COLDER FOR A PERIOD OF SEVERAL HOURS.  THOSE PLANNING TO
VENTURE OUTDOORS SHOULD DRESS WARMLY...MAKING SURE THAT ALL
EXPOSED SKIN IS COVERED.
