Who Has the Best Chicken Wings in the State of Iowa? [PHOTOS]
Where do you go when you're craving good chicken wings? If you're close to Des Moines, the answer should be Jethro's BBQ!
According to a recent article from Eat This, Jethro's BBQ has the very best wings in all of Iowa! The article reads:
"Jethro's BBQ is a regular on "best of" lists, was featured on Man v. Food, and even catered a backyard barbecue for former President Barack Obama. Slow-smoked wings get doused in handmade sauces, from Georgia mustard to garlic parm to buffalo sauce. Regulars will appreciate that Jethro's has a "sauce of the month," too."
Jethro's BBQ was founded by Bruce Gerleman after he spent time visiting his daughter at school in Austin, Texas. Bruce approached the chef at his other restaurant Splash Seafood, and told him that they should open a BBQ restaurant. They quickly got to work, opening the first Jethro’s BBQ at 3100 Forest Avenue in Des Moines on April 20th, 2008. There are now several locations of the restaurant, including Jethro's BBQ n' Pork Chop Grill in Johnston, Jethro’s ‘n Jakes Smokehouse Steaks in Altoona, Jethro's BBQ 'n Bacon Bacon in West Des Moines, and more. You can check out a full list of locations on the official website HERE.
Jethro's sells bone-in and boneless wings with a variety of sauces like Garlic Parmesan, Honey Chipotle, Chili Teriyaki, Raspberry Habanero, and Lemon Pepper. Plus, they even offer a 'Sauce of the Month!' Not into wings? No problem. The menu has tons of other options including sandwiches, steak burgers, salads, and a CRAZY food challenge called "The World Famous Adam Emmenecker."
If you can't make the drive over to Des Moines, there are plenty of places to get good wings here in Cedar Rapids. I've had some great wings at Brick's Bar, Parlor City, Edith Lucielle's, and the Blind Pig. The ones from Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City are really good, too!
