I think that we can all agree that being a police officer in this day and age is one of the toughest jobs out there. Basically putting their life on the line each and every day.

But which state is the best state to be a police officer and where does South Dakota rank? Apparently really high.

According to WalletHub, South Dakota ranks as the 10th best state to be a police officer. South Dakota is also among one of the lowest when it comes to state and local police-protection expenses per capita.

In order to come up with the rankings, Wallet Hub looked at roughly 20 different metrics from median income, to transparency, to police deaths per 1,000 officers, crime rates police friendliness just to name a few.

As for the best state to be a police officer, well our neighbors to the north is the number one state. North Dakota came in at number one while the worst state to be a police officer, is Louisiana.
