Another new year, another resolution.  This year my New Year's resolution is to not make a resolution.  It never fails, my resolutions always fail!  They're always the same...lose weight, save money, get organized, stop being mean to the sales staff.  About two days into the new year, I'm back to my old ways.

According to Sharecare.com, more than half of all people who make resolutions give up in six months.  According to Dr. Oz, most resolutions fail because our brain needs to reset.  Try these tricks to re-train your brain for a happier, healthier new you.

1.  Upgrade your attitude - Stay positive and realize that slips and mistakes are necessary ingredients in the recipe for success.

2.  Become a resolver - People who make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't make any.

3.  Create a support team - Identify others around you who will support your self-change.  Consider cyberfriends, like an online support group.

4.  Keep others from sabotaging your goals - Some people in your life will support your efforts to change.  Others will be opposed to them.  Address those saboteurs.  Tell them of your plans and ask for their support.  Don't let it compromise your relationship.

5.  Avoid resolution pitfalls - Motivation can only take you so far.  Without skills to make the changes you desire, you will not succeed in the long run.  If you want to be healthier, you need to change your habits.
