Time will tell if The Walking Dead can undo the fan ire that came with Season 6's cliffhanger finale, but time they certainly have. One week out from Season 7's premiere, The Walking Dead confirms that its endless parade of undead misery will continue through Season 8, and hit a major milestone at that.

The Walking Dead of Season 7 is a far-cry from the early days of Season 1, and it seems some ominous words from a forgotten friend will come back to haunt Rick as such. Walking Dead companion series Fear The Walking Dead wrapped up its second season with a few hints of the world leaning farther into the zombie apocalypse, but fans will always wonder if the two series would ever cross over. Robert Kirkman even offered a tantalizing hint at New York Comic-Con, suggesting a Fear-ful origin for one of the comics’ current villains.

Seven seasons in, The Walking Dead serves AMC’s best interest to extend and expand itself as long as possible . The Walking Dead has only spent the span of a single scene with Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, leading one to wonder how Season 7 might flesh out the character after such a skull-splitting entrance. Comic fans have an idea of which character ends up spending time with the new big bad, as showrunner Scott Gimple confirms Negan will develop a “strange respect” for someone on #TeamRick.
