The grandparent scam starts with a call from someone claiming to be a grandchild or other family member and requests money for a critical situation.

Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says a 55-year-old man got a call on Monday from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

Scam artists have cheated a Sioux Falls man out of $1,500 by claiming to be from the IRS and informing him he owes money for some recent tax years.

Here's a heads up on the latest huge scam.  If you get a call on your cell phone from an unknown number - and it only rings once - whatever you do, do not call back.
