Why Is Easter on a Different Date Each Year?

Easter is a holiday that is different every year. Easter comes at 40 days (not counting Sundays) after the start of Lent. The dates are determined by the full moon. Specifically the Paschal Full Moon. That is the name for the first full moon after the spring equinox, which is around March 21.

Some more calculations go into it, so we'll just take the calendar's word for it that Easter is April 20 in 2025.

Since April is a month of weather transition from winter to summer, the weather in South Dakota can be unpredictable. March and April are often Sioux Falls' snowiest months. And it's not likely to drop below zero, a blast of Arctic weather is not out of the question.
