I rarely see movies in the theater but for some reason am more likely to buy the Blu-Ray/Digital copy when that comes out. This week I picked up Midway. Is it worth buying?

Midway gives you a reasonably accurate and chronological telling of the background of and the story of the Battle of Midway that took place on June 4 - 7, 1942. It starts with Pearl Harbor being attacked and ends with the final victory over Japan.

I'm a World War II history nerd. I've seen most things worth seeing about the war fought by the Greatest Generation, and even a few things not worth seeing. This is one that is worth seeing, but it isn't great cinema. To explain that contradiction I will say that taking most of the Hollywood bulls*** out of it makes it a less interesting movie. On the bright side, you don't have a 90-minute love triangle story that makes you want to pull your hair out like Pearl Harbor did. But it's still one of my favorite bad movies.

Midway sucks you in with the real things that happened to real people. It was so crazy and full of intrigue in real life that it didn't need help to retell it.

It gets a 6.7 out of 10 rating on IMDB and I think that is fair. I would give it 7 out of 10 stars. There are a few cheesy macho lines, but how can you have dive bomber pilots in a Hollywood production not spout off a bunch of cheddar?

Go watch Midway. It has Nick Jonas in it.
