With some nasty cold descending on the Sioux Empire tonight, the Sioux Falls School District has called of in-person classes and will have a Remote Learning Day Friday (1/22/26).

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for the Sioux Falls area through Friday morning. The temperature is expected to be around -15, with a wind chill as low as -35 when the kids would be going to their schools.

Unlike a traditional "Snow Day," or in this case a "Dangerously Cold Day," while classes have been canceled, students can stay safe at home and continue their class work.

"iPads and Chromebooks were sent home with each student earlier today. We will not have in-person learning in the schools, but students are expected to connect to their Canvas account from home for assignments and learning resources," the District said in an email to parents.
