A four year old Sioux Falls girl has died from injuries in a crash on Friday, September 2 west of Brookings, South Dakota.

Jasmine Mathis, 4, Sioux Falls, died Sunday, September 4. She was a passenger in a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero that was going east on U.S. Highway 14 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Although Mathis was wearing a seatbelt she was not in a child restraint system.

The driver of the vehicle occupied by Mathis, 62-year-old Cheryl Hartman of Lake Preston, died at the scene. Two other passengers survived the crash. An 11 year old boy who suffered minor injuries and  a 9 year old girl with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the the other car, 27-year-old Jennifer Moser of Brookings, suffered life threatening injuries.

The injured individuals were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.

All of the occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
