The Sioux Falls City Council approved a rate increase for paratransit riders by one dollar per round trip. Many residents shared stories of the financial hardships that would be imposed by an increase.

Councilor Michelle Erpenbach addressed the need to improve the system, as riders will often wait two hours for a para transit ride.

Councilor Kermit Staggers offered an amendment that would mandate any funds collected by para transit fares strictly stay for that service only, which was approved by the council. The estimated increase of $60,000 per year in funds will be earmarked for para transit.
