In school, we learned about the four food groups. I remember the Fruits and Vegetables group, the Grains group, the Meat group (or as it's called nowadays: Protein), and finally, Dairy. If you eat stuff from those four groups, you'll be getting everything a growing kid needs.

Technically, potatoes would fall in the Fruits and Vegetables group. And I would classify them as such, most of the time. But when these tubers of gold are sliced up and fried in oil, they become something that deserves its very own food group: French fries!

The older I've gotten, I've realized that when I go out to eat, I'm mostly just ordering something so I can get the fries. So now I just order the fries and skip the boring parts of the meal.

French fries are possibly a perfect food. They can be crunchy and soft at the same time. They have that delicious, deep-fried, oily taste. They are the perfect sauce delivery system, but can also have a great taste themselves. Get yourself a snack that can do both.

I am a connoisseur of fries. They're something I will try almost everyplace I go. And I have very hard opinions about what makes a good French fry.
