Scammers must need a little extra Christmas cash with the holiday season right around the corner, because, KSFY TV is reporting they are once again busy working the phones here in the Sioux Empire.

This time around, scammers are pretending to be members of the sheriff’s office.

According to KSFY, the scam calls are originating from cloned sheriff's office numbers, and the people making the calls are using the names of sheriff's deputies.

The sheriff's office wants to remind everyone that it will never make phone calls to inform people of outstanding warrants, and they will never ask that payments be made via pre-paid gift cards.

Officials from the sheriff's office told KSFY, anyone who receives a phone call from a person claiming to be from the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office that is demanding money, should hang up immediately.

If you're wondering if you have an outstanding warrant, the sheriff's office says you should visit this site to confirm one has been issued in your name.
