Normani Drops Moody ‘Waves’ Collab With 6lack
Queen Normani just blessed our ears with yet another song AND gave us more details about her upcoming debut solo album!
Just weeks after dropping her two-track EP with Calvin Harris (which we're still bopping to), the former Fifth Harmony member just unleashed another taste of her solo sound. This time breakout rapper-singer 6lack is along for the ride and balances out the track perfectly.
"Waves," which is already charting on iTunes, is a moody, vibey track and feels perfect for the winter weather rolling in this week.
Normani stopped by Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show to premiere and chat about the track Thursday (November 15). Explaining why she worked with 6lack on the song, Normani said, "He's such an important artist, and I've been following his journey for awhile now. He's amazing. He's an amazing lyricist. I feel like he took the record to a whole new level."
As if releasing a sizzling new song wasn't enough, Normani also teased some new information about her debut album as a solo artist. She hasn't spoken much about the album, so this is where things got extra exciting.
Normani told Lowe the album isn't finished, but she's aiming for a first-quarter 2019 release. There is a title, but she would only reveal "It's a number." When Lowe asked if her Khalid-collab smash "Love Lies" is on the album she denies it but then got silent when asked if he's on the album at all.
"Anything longer than a 3-second pause is confirmation!" Lowe yells while laughing. Normani just giggles and says "I didn't say 'yes' and I didn't say 'no.'"
Now that we've heard four different Normani solo tracks since Fifth Harmony separated, two things are clear: All the material is top-notch so far, and she's experimenting with a wide range of sounds and vibes. We can not wait for this album.
Don't forget you can catch Normani on Ariana Grande's Sweetener Tour in 2019.
