If you're an animal lover, you're likely familiar with the sad news the Minnesota State Patrol just shared.

If you have pets, you know that despite all the joy they give us, one of the toughest things to go through is eventually having to say goodbye to your beloved friend. And when your four-legged friend is also a co-worker, it can be even tougher.

So my thoughts are with the men and women of the Minnesota State Patrol's Duluth district who had to suddenly say goodbye to K-9 officer, Jery. As the post on the State Patrol's Facebook page stated, he suddenly passed away earlier this week due to an undisclosed illness.

The post said Jery was a 10-year-old Belgian Malinois, who started his career with the State Patrol in 2015 in the Rochester district. He was first assigned to Trooper Patric Ignaszewski, and was later assigned to Trooper Jacob Bredsten in the Duluth district.

And Jery was a very good boy during his career with the State Patrol! Check out items he seized while completing his 347 deployments here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes:

  • $49,700 in illegal drug proceeds
  • 248 pounds of marijuana
  • 64 pounds of meth
  • 7 pounds of cocaine
  • 2 pounds heroin
  • 217 grams psilocybin

Jery was one of 15 K-9 teams currently with the Minnesota State Patrol, which, the Patrol says, are responsible for sniffing out illegal drugs that are en route to various Minnesota communities each year.

In addition, all Minnesota State Patrol K-9 teams also regularly respond to requests for assistance from other law enforcement agencies, as well, ranging from assisting other troopers on traffic stops to working with local law enforcement in situations where drugs are believed to be hidden inside houses, vehicles or other structures.

Thank you for your service, Jery, and ALL members of the Minnesota State Patrol!
