Minnesota High School Runner Disqualified After Helping Opponent
During a Minnesota high school sectional cross country meet in Luverne, Minnesota last month, 8th grader Gracie Bucher was approaching the finish line when things took a turn for the worst.
Bucher kept collapsing time and time again from fatigue and chest tightness until finally someone came to her aid.
That person is senior cross-country runner from Mountain Lake, Liana Blomgren. As she was approaching the finish line when she noticed Bucher down on the ground and instead of passing her by and securing a spot as a top 20 finisher for the race, she stopped to help and ended up risking her high school running career with a disqualification.
The story has been making headlines that even ESPN and the New York Post did a story about it on their website.
