4801 South Louise Avenue in Sioux Falls was one of our favorite places in the city to dine.

It was almost two years ago that Sioux Falls saw the doors of Spezia close. And, my tastebuds have been crying ever since.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many food outlets were closed to dine-in customers but tried to survive with delivery and takeout orders. Spezia was one of those.

But, as with many places, they wouldn't survive in that climate.

I remember the Crab Cake Sliders, the Brick Oven Salmon, those flatbread pizzas, Chicken Rissoto, which all would lead to a wedge of their famous Tiramisu.

Seeing the menu in my head seems like it was just yesterday. A world-traveled wine list. Chef's who were creative.

Of course, those special occasions meant even more with a dinner at Spezia for Mother's Day. And, waiting in line for the Easter Brunch Buffet, mmmm!

Who would ever think of a Tomato Fest?

The lighting, decor, linen topped tables and professional staff is what gave Spezia that extra edge.

The minute you walked through the door of Spezia, you knew it was going to be a special time.

When Spezia opened in 1994 at its original location at Park Ridge Galleria at 26th Street and Western Avenue, owner Dave Thompson instantly had the number one place to dine in Sioux Falls.
