Diversity is a great thing. You get to learn about people's cultures, backgrounds, religions, political views, and much more. However, some populations are more diverse than others.

Iowa is one of the least diverse states in the U.S. and when you think about it, it's hard to not disagree with that. There is definitely more diversity in states with larger cities and Iowa really doesn't have one.

After determining each state's overall score, WalletHub found these states to be the most diverse:

  1. California
  2. Texas
  3. Hawaii
  4. New Jersey
  5. Florida

Illinois almost cracked the top 10 most diverse states but fell short at number 12.

The Least Diverse States

This is where we get into the section of the list where Iowa is. Iowa isn't in the top five least diverse states but it's definitely in the top 10.

Iowa was ranked as the 7th least diverse state in the U.S. Iowa was the most diverse in the key dimension of "political diversity" where the Hawkeye State landed at 6th. Iowa ranked 44th in "cultural diversity".
