The case started in September when three people were found dead inside of a cabin on September 5. Two days later, an investigation conducted by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office determined that a murder-suicide had taken place.

Earlier this week, Crow Wing County Attorney Don Ryan concluded his review of the deadly incident that happened inside of a cabin at Breezy Point Resort.

A letter issued by Ryan says his review found 56-year-old Michael Toner of Maple Grove fatally shot and killed  54-year-old Melanie Jansen of Maple Grove and 29-year-old Hannah Parmenter(Jansen) of Elk River before turning the gun on himself. It's the same conclusion reached by law enforcement and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ryan’s letter says there was no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in double murder-suicide. He says prosecution is not warranted and that the case is now officially closed.

Crow Wing County officials said a Breezy Point police officer was sent to the property around 9 PM on Sept. 5 after a family member called 911 and reported seeing two people on the floor inside the cabin and blood was visible. The person who called for assistance was identified as the daughter and sister of the two female victims.

The responding officer confirmed what the 911 caller had reported after looking through a window into the cabin before he broke a window adjacent to the front door and was able to gain entrance. Once inside, he discovered all three victims dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
