
Scammers Impersonate South Dakota Sheriff’s Office In Troubling New Scheme
What could be worse than getting a call from a local law enforcement official with the devastating news that you've missed a court date and now have a warrant out for your arrest?
Failing to realize that the call isn't legit and forking over thousands of dollars to scammers.
That's exactly what's been happening in parts of South Dakota; at least one resident took the bait.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's office says someone impersonating a sergeant in their office has been making the calls with notice of the 'missed' court date. The scammer then informs the recipient of the call that they must pay the department in gift cards to avoid going to jail over the 'offense'.
The sheriff's office says one victim sent the scammers $3,000 in gift cards.
They are now warning Lincoln County residents about the scam.
