Pet Foods Sold in Iowa Recalled over Contamination Concerns

Some dog and cat food sold in Iowa and 15 other states is being pulled from store shelves.

Statesville, North Carolina-based Blue Ridge Beef is pulling the products due to traces of Salmonella and Listeria which could be potentially deadly to the pets and their owners.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall comes after the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services notified Blue Ridge that salmonella and listeria monocytogenes were found in three different products:

2lb Kitten Grind (UPC: 8 54298 00101 6)
2lb Kitten Mix (UPC: 8 54298 00243 6)
2lb Puppy Mix (UPC: 8 54298 00169 6)

The recalled products were distributed between November 14 and December 20, 2023.

Consumers who bought the products can email or call Blue Ridge at (704) 880-4500 Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM Central time.

Consumers are advised to discard any of the recalled products they have on hand and to wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, utensils, and storage containers that may have come in contact with the product.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.
