The 2026 Sioux Falls FREE Airshow, "Power On The Prairie, is ready to take flight, and this year's event promises to be one of the biggest celebrations the city has ever hosted.

The free airshow returns to Joe Foss Field and the South Dakota Air National Guard Base on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, bringing thrilling aerial performances, military displays, and family-friendly activities to Sioux Falls.

This year's event carries special significance as it celebrates both America's 250th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the South Dakota Air National Guard.

Organizers say the weekend will honor the nation's rich aviation history while recognizing the men and women who have served our country through the Guard for the past eight decades.

The highlight of the weekend will be an incredible performance by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, one of the world's premier military flight demonstration teams.

Visitors can also tour the South Dakota Air National Guard Base during its open house, explore static aircraft displays, meet Airmen, check out military exhibits, and learn more about aviation and the Guard's mission.

The festivities actually begin a few days early with Discover Aviation Day on Thursday, July 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Maverick Air Center.

The event will feature hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, and information about careers in aviation, aerospace, and the military, making it a great outing for students, families, and aviation enthusiasts.

"This event is an opportunity to honor those who have served, inspire future generations, and bring our community together," said Sioux Falls Airshow Committee Chair Lisa Hirsch.

Best of all, admission is completely free, making it an affordable summer event for the entire family.

Whether you're a lifelong aviation fan or simply looking for an unforgettable weekend, the 2026 Sioux Falls Airshow is shaping up to be one of the must-see events of the summer.
