As Shaboozy would say, everybody in the bar is getting tipsy.

Shaboozy might want to write a follow-up version of that song and dedicate it to the city of Aberdeen. I have a feeling "A Bar Song" is quite popular in the Hub City because, according to a new study, it sounds like there are a lot of folks in Aberdeen who like their hooch.

Aberdeen, South Dakota was recently named the third worst city in the country for sober living.

Key Factors Behind Aberdeen’s High Ranking

Dakota News Now reports that the manufacturing company SMARTSTART recently conducted a study of 162 cities throughout the country to determine the least-sober-friendly communities in America.

Research for the study was done in the 50 largest cities across the country, along with the three largest cities in each state.

According to Dakota News Now, each city was evaluated on the following criteria:

  • The number of  AA locations per 100,000 residents
  • The number of drinking establishments per 100,000 residents
  • The number of snack and nonalcoholic beverage bars per 100,000 residents
  • The number of treatment and recovery centers per 100,000 residents
  • The percentage of residents who have participated in binge drinking events in the past 30 days
  • The percentage of residents who identify as non-drinkers
  • The average number of sober events each month per 100,000 residents

Sorry to say this, but Aberdeen didn't score all that well in the various categories.

It ranked as the third-worst city in the nation for sober living and the worst city for alcohol recovery resources in the country.

Basically, if you have an alcohol dependency problem, there aren't enough places you can turn to in the Hub City to get help and treatment, according to the SMARTSTART findings.

If you want to live in a clean and sober community, you'll need to pack up the moving van and head for Rutland, Vermont. They scored the highest when it comes to sober living in the U.S.

Only Missoula, Montana, and Madison, Wisconsin, scored worse than Aberdeen when it came to cities that like to tie one on!

10 Things You Should Never Do in South Dakota

Go anywhere in the U.S. and you'll find traditions and customs that only exist in that part of the country. South Dakota is no different, and there are definitely some "do's and don'ts" when it comes to living here.

Be careful trying any of these things in the Mount Rushmore State.
