Sioux Falls Celebrates Earth Day With Party for the Planet
Join the Celebration and Party for the Planet
Earth Day isn't just about wearing green and recycling your cans—it's about rolling up your sleeves and making a real difference. On Saturday, April 25th, from 10 AM to 2 PM, Sioux Falls is doing just that with Party for the Planet at Sertoma Park.
This community-wide celebration brings together families, conservation groups, and outdoor enthusiasts for a morning of action and adventure along the Big Sioux River. And the best part? Everyone who participates receives a special ticket for $1 off admission to the Great Plains Zoo or Butterfly House & Aquarium!

Clean Up, Show Up, Make an Impact
The heart of the event is a Big Sioux River clean-up from 10 AM to noon, hosted by the Sioux Falls Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium, Friends of the Big Sioux River (FBSR), and the Outdoor Campus.
Party for the Planet is part of a larger campaign focused on bringing communities together to create healthier habitats - and there's no better way to celebrate Earth Day than by protecting one of Sioux Falls' most important natural resources. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or trying your hand at conservation for the first time, this is your chance to make a real difference in your own backyard.
More Than Just a Clean-Up
But Party for the Planet isn't all work and no play. The Outdoor Campus will be hosting open house fishing, giving families a chance to cast a line and enjoy the river they're helping to protect. It's a perfect introduction to outdoor recreation for kids and adults alike.
Local conservation groups will also be on hand with vendor activities, offering educational resources, interactive displays, and information on how to continue supporting environmental efforts year-round.
And for the bookworms in the family, Siouxland Libraries is leading a Book Hike—a creative way to combine outdoor exploration with literacy and learning.
A Celebration Worth Joining: Why It Matters
Party for the Planet reminds us that taking care of the Earth doesn't have to feel like a chore. With hands-on activities, community connections, and the beautiful backdrop of Sertoma Park, it's a celebration of everything that makes Sioux Falls special - our river, our wildlife, and our commitment to preserving them for future generations.
