Someone might want to give Happy Gilmore a heads-up. Downtown Sioux Falls is about to turn Main Avenue into one big putting green.

In a move that feels part block party, part back-nine scramble, DTSF is rolling out an Open Streets event on Friday, June 5, and one of the main attractions is a pop-up mini-golf course right in the heart of downtown.

You read that right, between grabbing a bite and a couple of drinks downtown, you'll be able to work on your short game just steps from Phillips Avenue.

According to Dakota News Now, the temporary course will feature nine one-of-a-kind holes, and here’s where things get interesting: local businesses, construction crews, architects, and creative minds are being asked to design and build each hole themselves.

There’s no cost to participate, but teams will need to supply their own materials to build their hole, and handle setup and teardown on event day. Each hole can be up to 11 feet by 20 feet, and organizers are basically inviting you to go wild with your design concepts. The more interactive and eye-catching, the better, so don’t be surprised if one hole looks like Falls Park, while another might look like the Arc of Dreams.

DTSF will provide the putters and balls, so no need to bring yours.

The action tees off that day along Main Avenue between 11th and 13th Streets, with tee times running from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. It’s a perfect excuse to get downtown, soak up a summer evening, and if you're anything like me, do some much-needed work on your short game.

If you've ever dreamed of designing your own golf hole, here's your chance. Those interested should email Jared Indahl by April 15.
