If you’ve been looking for an excuse to clear out some closet space, or at least pretend you’re going to, The Empire Mall in Sioux Falls just handed you a pretty good one.

The region’s largest shopping destination, already home to more than 140 stores, is adding two brand-new tenants before the end of the year. According to Dakota News Now, JD Sports and Gap Factory are officially on the way, bringing fresh fashion options and a little extra buzz to the Sioux Falls shopping scene.

JD Sports, a globally popular athletic apparel and footwear retailer that hails from Bury, Greater Manchester, England, is a major player here in the U.S. JD Sports has more than 350 stores nationwide. Known for its sleek sneaker walls and trend-forward athletic gear, JD Sports has become a go-to for shoppers who want their workout clothes to look just as good outside the gym as they do inside it. The Sioux Falls location is expected to open before spring wraps up, which means new shoes could be in your future sooner rather than later.

Then there’s Gap Factory, which might feel a little like a long-lost friend finally making a comeback. Gap fans in Sioux Falls likely still remember the sting of the original Gap store closing at Empire Mall back in August of 2020. Even the Gap Factory in Sioux City didn’t survive, shutting down earlier that same year.

Now, Gap Factory is returning to the area with its signature mix of classic styles, budget-friendly pricing, and everyday basics that somehow never go out of style. The new Sioux Falls store is expected to open in early summer, just in time to stock up on all of your warm-weather essentials.
