Runners From 48 States Gathered Sunday For Sioux Falls Marathon
After a year-long hiatus, hundreds of determined runners laced up their sneakers and hit the streets to run Sioux Falls on Sunday for the long-awaited return of the 2025 Sioux Falls Marathon, proudly powered by the Sioux Falls Sports Authority.
South Dakota’s premier marathon event made its triumphant comeback on Sunday, September 21, after runners were not able to get out of the starting blocks due to the extreme heat in 2024.
Let’s be honest: canceling a marathon is no small deal. Especially when you've spent months waking up at 5 AM just to run until your toenails decide to file for divorce. But race organizers made the right call in 2024, because boiling like a bratwurst in late August is not part of the typical marathon training plan.

It was a different story this year, however, as organizers nudged the marathon back a few weeks to mid-September, and it paid off. Runners were greeted by mild temperatures, low humidity, and no wind, which in South Dakota is known as a unicorn-level weather event.

According to Dakota News Now, the 2025 Sioux Falls Marathon welcomed runners from 48 states and several countries. That’s right, people came from all over the world just to voluntarily run long distances in South Dakota. Yeah, I know, we runners truly are a different breed of cat!
What were the fastest times on Sunday?
The best 5K time was done in 19:00 minutes. The person with the fastest Half-Marathon time did it in roughly the time it takes to listen to one Taylor Swift album, 1:13 minutes. And the Full-Marathon winner crossed the finish line in 2:40:40sec. That's cruising!
There were 402 total finishers, making this the biggest turnout for the Sioux Falls marathon, half-marathon, and 5K since 2019.
Hats off, or should I say shoes off, to everyone who ran, cheered, hydrated, or just managed not to pass out. Whether you PR’d or PRed (that’s “painfully regretted”) your decision to run, you’re officially part of Sioux Falls running history.
Congrats everyone! Now go ice your knees!
