This exciting project is part of Via’s Better Bus Plan, a forward-thinking effort to modernize public transit with smarter technology - and a stronger connection to the community it serves. And what better way to connect than through bold, local art?

Calling All Artists: Showcase Your Work

Artists 18 and older in the Sioux Falls area are encouraged to submit designs that are vibrant, eye-catching, and inspired by the people, places, and personality that make the city special. Think iconic landmarks, local culture, and creative flair that turns heads at every stoplight.

A selection panel, along with the city’s Visual Arts Committee, will review submissions and choose four winning designs. Those artists won’t just earn bragging rights - their work will be featured on SAM buses, turning them into moving canvases seen all across town. Winners will also receive a $500 cash prize and a full year of free SAM rides.

“This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate local artists,” said city arts coordinator Maren Engel. “Public transit is one of the most visible community spaces we have in Sioux Falls.”
