39 Firefighters Respond To Weekend Fire At Sioux Falls Smithfield

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews responded to an early Sunday morning structure fire at the Smithfield facility in Sioux Falls.

According to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched to the 1400 block of N. Weber Ave. at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, after a fire was reported at the facility.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke conditions on several floors of the building.

Multiple crews entered the facility to evacuate personnel and search for the location of the fire.

Firefighters located the fire and stretched multiple hose lines into the building to begin fighting the flames. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within approximately 45 minutes.

Facility personnel were able to evacuate on their own, and there were no reported injuries.
Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately four hours after the fire was extinguished. Crews conducted overhaul operations and ventilated the building to help clear smoke and ensure the fire was fully contained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with nine units, five support units and 39 firefighters.

Metro Communications, PatientCare EMS and the Sioux Falls Police Department assisted at the scene. Xcel Energy and MidAmerican Energy also provided assistance.
