Next time you're heading west on 41st Street, you might catch yourself thinking, “Wait…wasn’t there a building there?” You’re not imagining things. The former David’s Bridal location has officially been demolished, clearing the way for something brand new, and to be completely honest, way more craveable: Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.

After standing along one of the city’s busiest corridors for decades, one of its oldest buildings is now just a memory, nothing more than a cloud of dust in the rearview mirror.

Most recently, that retail space was home for nearly 21 years to David’s Bridal, a bridal shop that helped Sioux Empire couples say “yes” to the dress from October 2004 until its closure in October 2025.

But longtime locals like me know that address has lived a few different lives. Before the racks of wedding gowns moved in, the space housed White’s Mercantile. And if you go back even further, it was once home to Ember’s, the beloved Midwest family restaurant.

If you grew up in Sioux Falls in the ‘80s or early ‘90s, there’s a decent chance you remember Ember’s for its comfort food. It was a popular go-to stop for some sobering-up food after a night of Sioux Falls nightlife, when your decision-making skills were, let’s say, “limited.” Their legendary “Blockbuster Breakfast” or the famous "Em-Burger" typically got the job done once the bars closed.

Now, the next chapter is officially underway. According to Dakota News Now, Raising Cane’s plans to begin construction soon on the site, bringing its wildly popular chicken-finger concept to Sioux Falls for the very first time. If you’ve ever driven out of state and waited in a suspiciously long drive-thru line for chicken and Cane’s sauce, you already know what type of hype to expect soon.

While an exact opening date hasn’t been locked in, the restaurant is expected to debut either later this year or in early 2027. Meaning, very soon, your future 41st Street traffic delays will involve large numbers of people craving chicken rather than wedding dresses.
