The cupboards are looking a little empty these days out at the Sioux Falls Humane Society, especially the ones that usually hold cat food. And when a building full of hungry felines starts echoing with the collective sound of “meow,” it’s officially time for the shelter to sound the alarm.

The Sioux Falls Humane Society is putting out an all-call to the community for help restocking its pet food bank, because cat food supplies are running dangerously low. That’s no small problem when you consider the sheer number of whiskered residents that call the shelter home.

On an average day, the Humane Society cares for between 100 and 140 cats patiently waiting to be adopted. During especially busy stretches, that number can climb well past 200. That’s a lot of paws, tails, and a whole lot of cat bowls that need to be filled with Purina Pro Plan, and some Fancy Feast fast!

Wet food, dry food, and everything in between are being gobbled up faster than you can open a can.

The shelter staff and volunteers are doing everything they can to keep bellies full and spirits high, but they can’t do it alone.

Cat food donations are needed in the worst way, and every bag, can, or dollar makes a real difference. Even a single donation helps ensure that these furries stay healthy, happy, and a little less dramatic around mealtime.

If you’re able to help, there are a few easy ways to do it.

Cash donations can be made online at any time. In-person donations are also welcome Monday through Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
