Bomb Threat Phoned in to Mitchell, SD Walmart Friday Afternoon
Walmart shoppers in Mitchell received a bit of a scare on Friday afternoon as the city's popular big box store received a bomb threat that forced shoppers to exit the building briefly.
Dakota News Now is reporting the Walmart Store in Mitchell, South Dakota located at 1101 East Spruce Street was forced to evacuate on Friday (February 9) after someone phoned in what ended up being an erroneous bomb threat.
According to Dakota News Now, the hoax happened right around 12:40 that afternoon. A store employee notified authorities and management on duty at the time and immediately evacuated customers inside the building to a place of safety.
Dakota News Now reports that the Mitchell Police Department, Davison County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Mitchell Fire and EMS all responded to the call.
After a thorough investigation of the store, authorities were able to determine that the bomb threat was a hoax, and shoppers were allowed back inside the building.
Police have now turned their attention to attempting to find out who was responsible for phoning in the prank. At this time, authorities believe the call originated from outside the Mitchell area.
