Best Minnesota April Fools Joke…Ever!

If you are from Minnesota you will definitely agree that this has got to be the best all-around April Fools Day joke.

The tradition of April Fools Day dates back hundreds of years long before Minnesota was even a state.

I came across what is one of the best April Fools Day pranks involving the state's iconic Split Rock Lighthouse.

The Split Rock Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park along the shores of Lake Superior on the North Shore of Minnesota.

Construction of the landmark began in 1909 and was completed in 1910 at a cost of $75,000.

It was built after a major shipwreck in 1905 highlighted the need for a lighthouse along that treacherous stretch of shoreline just north of Duluth, Minnesota.

“A Great Lakes Whale breaches the surface of Lake Superior in front of an illuminated Split Rock Lighthouse.

Great Lakes Whales are exceedingly rare and are generally only seen in the waters around Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, MN on April 1st of each year.”
