Local Artist Pays Tribute To Veterans With Moving Song
Every year on August 7th, we recognize Purple Heart Day. It’s a time to honor the men and women who were hurt or killed while serving in the U.S. military. Here in the Midwest, this day means a lot. We’re known for our small towns, strong communities, and deep respect for those who serve. Many of us have family members, friends, or neighbors who have received the Purple Heart.
Purple Heart Day: Why It Matters Here in the Midwest
The Purple Heart medal was started way back in 1782 by George Washington. It’s oneof the most important honors a soldier can get. Around here, you’ll see signs and flags showing support; at local VFWs, on farm fences, and even in small-town parks. It’s a reminder that freedom isn’t free.
One South Dakota artist, Travis Jacobs, wanted to do something special to honor this day. He wrote and performed a song all about Purple Heart Day. The song tells the story of bravery and sacrifice. It also touches on, sometimes the recipient of the Purple Heart had no plans at all to do, what they ultimately ending up doing. His music helps us remember and respect what these heroes have gone through.
So on August 7th, take a moment to pause and think about those who gave so much. Maybe thank a veteran or play Travis Jacobs’ song. Here in the Midwest, we don’t forget.
