After watching (most of) the Academy Awards Sunday night I once again went to bed feeling less than inspired by what were suppose to be the biggest achievements in cinema in 2014.

I was really hoping American Sniper would have won an Oscar for Best Picture, or Bradley Cooper for Best Actor. I'm sure Birdman was a fine film, and plan to see it, but the Clint Eastwood directed biography of sniper Chris Kyle left American audiences speechless.

As a fan of film and everything that goes into making a successful picture, I'll not stop watching the Academy Awards - but maybe the Academy needs a few more categories - like these:

  • And the Oscar for the 'Best Movie That Made You Say, "What the &%$#@*?!??!!?' -Gone Girl.
  • And the Oscar for 'Best Inflatable Thing that Broke our Hearts' goes to - Big Hero Six.
  • And the  Oscar for 'Seriously, You had Twenty Years to make a Sequel and this is what you Came up With?' goes to - Dumb and Dumber To.
  • Best Accent in a Guy Action Flick - goes to Liam Neeson in Taken 3.
  • The Oscar for "Did this Really Need to Be Nearly Three Hours?" - The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
  • The Oscar for Picture Most Likely to Pee Your Pants goes to - Annabelle
  • And the Oscar for Best Movie to Feature a Monkey goes to Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (The acceptance speech would have killed.)
  • And finally, the Oscar for The Most Disappointment Felt When the Rapture Didn't Actually Happen During the Film goes to Left Behind.

I'll admit, I'm probably not the best example for an Academy movie-goer. I'm just a guy who goes to the movies - a lot - but with such films as 50 Shades of Grey and American Sniper in theaters, a film like The Grand Budapest Hotel isn't really on my radar.

So I, much like The Lego Movie, woke up feeling snubbed.
