Huskers and Scarlet Knights Meet Again – 94 Years Later

It's a series of firsts for Nebraska this week as the Cornhuskers kickoff for the first time in the daylight since early September, and play a team they haven't crossed paths with in more than a generation.

That's the backdrop as Nebraska hosts Big Ten new kids on the block Rutgers Saturday morning in Lincoln, as the Huskers begin play a half game behind Minnesota for the top spot in the West Division.

After a series of close games against Northwestern, the Huskers blew open the game in Evanston last weekend, pitching a shutout in the second half, scoring the final 24 points of the game to beat the Wildcats 38-17.

I asked the 'Voice of the Huskers' Greg Sharpe about the final 30 minutes of that game:

This week, the Cornhuskers do something they haven't done in more than 90 years - play Rutgers in football.

Despite an unfamiliar opponent, Nebraska will also be dealing with a bit of a new schedule this week, kicking off in the morning after a series of games under the lights.

Kickoff is 11:00am CDT Saturday in Lincoln.  Nebraska hosts Purdue next Saturday.
