The snow is coming. AKA Winter Storm Q. In the Sioux Falls area the snow should start Wednesday night and continue through Thursday. Travel in the Plains is going to be difficult later this week.

Widespread snowfall is expected to push into Central South Dakota Wednesday Night, then spread east through the remainder of the forecast area on Thursday. Snow will begin tapering off late Thursday Night. Exact snowfall amounts remain uncertain, but much of the region is likely to see storm total amounts greater than 6 inches, with South Central South Dakota possibly nearing 10 inches. Those planning to travel late this week should continue to monitor the potentially hazardous travel conditions. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect. -NWS Sioux Falls
