Remember the movie Gremlins? The movie about a boy who receives a strange creature called a mogwai as a pet and then things take a turn for the worst? Well, it looks like the third installment of the movie franchise is a go!

According to Boomstick Comics, writer and filmmaker Chris Columbus has written a script for the third film. He wrote the screenplay for the original film.

Columbus has been making the rounds at movie production companies and Warner Bros. has officially greenlit Gremlins 3 so it is definitely happening.

When talking about the sequel and the script, Columbus said:

“I’m really proud of the script, it is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”

The first movie came out in 1984 and the sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch was released in 1990.
