After considering a request from Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, Governor Kristi Noem announced on Tuesday afternoon that she will not issue a shelter-in-place order at this time in Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties.

Dakota News Now is reporting that Governor Noem "evaluated" Mayor TenHaken's request on Monday and firmly believes that it is "not appropriate considering the data, and the facts, and the science we have."  In her press conference, Governor Noem reaffirmed her confidence in her decisions by saying, “I will continue to keep perspective, to continue to use science, facts, and data to make the decisions that impact this state and the people who live here."

Governor Noem explained that Mayor TenHaken does have tools available at a local level if he and the City Council chooses to use them.  On Wednesday evening at 7 P.M., the City Council is planning to share the first reading of the shelter-in-place order during its council meeting.
