Arguably one of the most successful fighting video game franchises in history is heading back to the big screen. According to EW, an all-new Mortal Kombat movie will begin filming with James Wan serving as a producer. That name may sound familiar and it should. Wan is known for directing the horror film Saw. He also directed Dead Silence and Death Sentence, Insidious, The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2, Furious 7, The Conjuring 2 and the blockbuster Aquaman.

You may remember the two cheesy and over-the-top Mortal Kombat movies that were released in the 1990s,  Mortal Kombat in 1995 and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in 1997. There’s no word on if the movie will be a sequel or a complete reboot but pre-production is set to begin this month before shooting starts later this year.

Mortal Kombat games have sold over 35 million units following the release of Mortal Kombat X in 2015.
