We are a week away from Christmas and Santa keeps giving us a little gift: cheaper gas.

The average price for a gallon of gas in South Dakota has fallen again this week to $2.48, according to AAA. That is two cents cheaper than a week ago. One month ago the price was $2.54 per gallon. One year ago it was $2.38 per gallon.

“As the weather turns colder, people tend to drive less and we see less gasoline demand,” said Marilyn Buskohl, AAA spokesperson. “This is causing gas prices to be less expensive. In the lead up to the holidays we may see a small spike in demand, but not enough to impact gas prices substantially.”

In Sioux Falls the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.36, according to GasBuddy.com. The cheapest price in town is $2.19 per gallon at the Mobil station on 49th Street. Gas can be had at most stations in town for between $2.29 and $2.39.
