Rising Egg Prices? Try These Fun and Affordable Easter Substitutes
It's nearly Easter. The spring holiday is coming up on April 20, 2025. That means easter candy and Easter eggs!
Fun and Creative Easter Egg Alternatives
Well, this year, the egg part may be a bit tricky. Various factors have led to rising prices and falling supplies of eggs.
If you can find some when you want them, you'll probably be paying a premium. And won't want to be wasting the precious orbs.
Even if you did make deviled eggs out of them, are you really gonna eat that many before they go bad?

Why Are Egg Prices So High This Easter?
NerdWallet reported that the average price of a dozen eggs was over $5 in February. Prices may be on the brink of falling as producers recover from the effects of the bird flu that drove supply down and prices up. But they are still pretty pricey.
Egg-Free Easter Ideas
So, the eggs have become too expensive to waste on dye and use for Easter egg hunts. So what are we going to do? We need to find things that are small, kinda egg shaped, and will take the egg dye your youngest insisted on getting when you were at Walmart last night.
I found several suggestions online for Easter egg alternatives. Some people suggest those plastic eggs you get in the Easter section of the store. They were super cheap last I knew. Fill them with candy and then paint them.

Make It a Family Craft Day with These Easter Ideas
Or make it a whole crafting event and make papier mache eggs and then paint them. Go into your partner's gold bag and borrow some golf balls! Small, round, white, and perfect for dyeing.
Or you can use other round-ish foods, like potatoes or onions. You could even ball up some bread and paint it.
There are lots of alternatives to dyeing eggs this Easter. You can still have family fun without using up what has apparently become our most precious resource, chicken eggs.
