Does South Dakota State Treasurer Owe you Money?
Nearly $400 million is being held by the State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division. If you're on the list and can provide several simple documents, a check could be coming your way.
This weekend at the Sioux Empire Home Show the state treasurer's office will be on site where you can search your name to see if there's money that could be yours, according to Treasurer Rich Sattgast:
Our goal is to put money back into the hands of South Dakotans. That money ultimately makes its way into our economy which is good for our state.
Unclaimed property refers to accounts in financial institutions, businesses and government agencies that have had no activity for three years or longer. The state holds the money in a custodial capacity until the money can be returned to the rightful owners.
The Treasurer's booth at the home show is at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on Friday and Saturday February 24 and 25th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Sunday, February 26 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
To check for unclaimed property now, visit The Treasurer's website or call 1-866-357-2547.
