‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Confirmed to Solve Murdock Family Mystery
Marvel’s Daredevil can’t be “Born Again” without the woman who gave birth in the first place. Following a Defenders tease, Season 3 of Marvel’s fearless vigilante has cast Matt Murdock’s famous mother and reassured the family reunion will take place later this year.
You’re warned of Defenders finale spoilers from here on out, but the final moments seemingly confirmed that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock would be nursed back to health by “Maggie,” a nun who happens to share his mother’s name. Now, Borgias alum Joanne Whalley has landed the role (Marvel’s release doesn’t mention the familial connection), though both the finale tease and Maggie’s appearance nod toward famous comic Daredevil arc “Born Again.”
And were there any doubt, Marvel’s announcement also confirms that Daredevil Season 3 is “slated for release later this year,” following the March 8 return of Jessica Jones, and presumably Luke Cage Season 2 sometime over the summer. Last year marked the first instance of Netflix premiering three Marvel series in one year – Iron Fist, Defenders and The Punisher – while 2019 will likely bring us Iron Fist Season 2, The Punisher Season 2, and potentially a third, as-yet-unannounced premiere.
Elsewhere of Daredevil Season 3, we know Hart of Dixie alum Wilson Bethel will join the cast in an FBI agent role speculated to be Stanley “Sin-Eater” Carter, while the third year will also mark the regular return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. Man in the High Castle alum Erik Oleson will take over as showrunner from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who themselves took over for Steven DeKnight. Unconfirmed is how closely Season 3 will draw from Frank Miller’s notably dark “Born Again” storyline, or if Charlie Cox will finally get his wish for Bullseye to appear.
Daredevil Season 3’s late 2018 release is still far in the distance, so stay tuned for the latest.
