Dancing With the Stars: Disney Night
I used to write reviews about Dancing With the Stars (DWTS) every week and then I just kind of...stopped. I don't know why, I still love and watch the show. Silly me.
But last night's Disney night was especially awesome. It inspired me to get back to what I do best. Critiquing other people dancing because I know they are all better than me.
Disney night is always one of the best themes on DWTS. I'm a sucker for Disney. The movies and songs are so iconic. Even the newer Disney movies become instant classics.
Last night I was especially in awe of Normani and Val. Normani is in the singing group Fifth Harmony and Val is her professional partner, and since Mark Ballas left, he's kind of my new favorite.
So they had to do a Paso Doble (which is one of my favorite dances) to "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Mulan (which is one of my favorite songs and movies of all time!)!
And here is the kicker! Donnie Osmond was there to sing it live! He was the singing voice for the movie, you guys!
Somehow, Val was able to combine the martial arts and combat of Mulan with ballroom dancing and it was unbelievable. Loved it!
Now on to my other favorite, Nancy Kerrigan.
She has been doing very well this season. Athletes, and especially Olympians, usually do well because they are used to long rehearsals and grueling schedules. Well, Nancy is paired with Artem, who usually gets stuck with blah celebs, so yay for him getting someone who wants to be there.
Anyway, Nancy has been on a rollercoaster of emotions with this show. Last week, she revealed that she had multiple miscarriages before completing her family. Not a dry eye in the house. Plus, Nancy is very hard on herself. She compares herself to the pros because she usually is the pro, but in dancing she's a newbie. She freaks herself out before every dance and then always pulls it off. I can relate to that on a much smaller level. When I did Mary Poppins last year at the community theatre I thought I was going to be a disaster. I was worried about everything, but when that curtain goes up, you gotta just do it.
Nancy had a song from Enchanted for her routine and it was beautiful, fun, charming, and it just made me smile.
Sadly, Erika Jayne from The Real Housewives was sent home last night.
Next week's theme is boybands vs. girl groups! Oh man!
