I got really used to paying for gas at around $2 a gallon six months ago. Still hoping for those days but it isn't happening any time soon.

According to a press release from AAA of South Dakota, the national average for gasoline is currently $2.47 per gallon. Filling the tank in South Dakota is averaging slightly higher at $2.49 per gallon.

“Depending on where in the country you are filling up your tank, gasoline prices are playing tricks on some motorists with large increases on the week and treating others to lower gas prices,” said Marilyn Buskohl, AAA spokesperson. “The price volatility can be attributed to a new trend that has emerged during October in the last few years, which is an unexpectedly steady demand for gasoline after the end of the summer driving season.”

I do tend to take trips this time off year, going west to go pheasant or deer hunting. I'm sure lots of others do as well. And a couple of months into the school year I suppose state championships for fall high school sports cause an uptick in car travel.
