There's two reasons to fly commercial on Thanksgiving weekend: to visit family or to get away from them. Whichever category you fall into it's wise to book now to save some money.

Travel site, Hipmonk, says that the average round-trip Thanksgiving flight will cost $424 if you book this week, the week before Labor Day weekend. If you wait until say November to book your Thanksgiving flight, you could expect to pay up to 32% more. For a family of four, that could mean paying nearly $550 more for round-trip tickets.

That's a lot of pecan pie and cranberry sauce.

Also, keep in mind, that it is historically cheaper to fly on Thanksgiving Day itself than the day before or after. Hipmonk also suggests avoiding returning home on Saturday or Sunday if possible.

Following these simple guideline just may result in saving enough money to afford those post-Thanksgiving stretchy pants.
